Qur’an chat · a design case study

tadabbur

Bring your questions to the Qur’an.

A quiet place to sit with the Qur’an and reflect — built for the connection between a person and Allah, not for tracking a daily routine.

The idea

Most faith apps count your streaks. Tadabbur counts nothing.

It was never meant to be a habit tracker. It is a quiet place to bring a real question to the Qur’an and read the answer in the text itself — a space for the connection between a person and Allah. The whole app points to the Qur’an; it never performs, and it never claims to interpret it for you. One rule runs through every screen: point to the text, never perform.

The app

Five quiet surfaces

Everything except Ask works with no network at all. The whole Qur’an ships inside the app.

Today

Offline

A calm home: the verse of the day, a name of Allah, and a door into a quiet moment.

Sakina

Offline

A short guided session to sit with a feeling, built entirely on a verse.

Ask

AI · discloses

A question in plain language, answered by a reflection that points to real verses.

Read

Offline

The full mushaf, searchable, verse by verse — the floor beneath every reflection.

Profile

Offline

Who you are, the size of the Arabic, the theme, and where the text comes from.

Three voices, never blurred

The Qur’an, its translation, and the machine — each in its own type

The sacred text is set in an Uthmanic script, the translation in a serif one step down, and anything the app itself says in a plain sans. You can always tell which voice is speaking.

إِنَّ مَعَ ٱلْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا

Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.

The thinking

Every choice, on purpose

Geometry, not photographs

Instead of a mosque at sunset used as decoration, a faint eight-pointed khatim star rests behind the screens. It follows the older tradition of Islamic art — pattern over pictures — so it feels sacred without borrowing anything sacred to hold your eye.

Never a fake ayah

The verse in an answer is real and checked against a trusted source. The reflection only points to it; it never writes the Qur’an, never gives a ruling, and always says plainly that it is a reflection and not tafsir.

No streaks, no scores

There is nothing to keep and nothing to fail. The week strip only marks the days you returned. Calm was the whole point, so the home never becomes a dashboard.

Smoothness on purpose

Screens fade instead of jumping. Sheets slide up and drag away. As the Arabic grows, the spacing between the lines grows with it, so the marks never collide. Every small motion is there to keep you calm.
